Big Nothing
Big Nothing stars David Schwimmer (Charlie) & Simon Pegg (Gus) and is black comedy set in the sleepy town of Big falls. Charlie ends up taking a job at a call centre in an effort to try and earn money for his family.
He is befriended by Gus who ropes him into a blackmailing scheme, a simple plan or so it seems. With a dodgy alibi and a top FBI agent in town things can only go from bad to worse.
I found this film very funny and reminded me slightly of Fargo, with it's dry humour and dark comedy elements. Simon Pegg plays the part of an American semi-convincingly while you are drwan into the plot from the start.
if you are a fan of this genre of film you'll most likely enjoy this film. It was released on DVD the 14th of April, so why not give it a whirl.
Names
Dok once again found a story of wonderful stupidity.
A couple wanting to name their child after Metallica, I ask you why? they aren't even good anymore. I wonder what the grandfather (Bachman-Turner Overdrive) and grandmother (Grand Funk Railroad) have to say on this, ok maybe slightly untrue (hehehe).
After this I had to find some of the wonderfully idiotic baby names that exist (normally related to celebrities). My search yielded the following results:
Audio Science – Shannyn Sossamon (Actress)
Pirate : Jonathan Davis (Korn)
Pilot Inspektor : Jason Lee (Actor)
there are more but these 3 just really illustrated the point.
No after this I thought not more on the subject until i was in Swansea a few weeks back and heard a mother calling to her unruly children from across the pub. Normally I'd not bat an eye-lid but I nearly choked on my food and the sound of “Sue Ellen Come here” promptly followed by “Enya stop that!”.
I drowned my face in my drink to stop me from laughing to loudly and the Dallas fan and her children.
Software pricing
The Uk has always got the crap deal with it some to products such as music and software.
So in this wonderful age of technology we see Microsoft still mantaining the inbalance with their lastest offering.
Vista Ultimate
US Price $399.99 (highest price i could find in online stores in the US, many where much cheaper)
OK I dug around and got some prices for UK prices, the conversion is based on the current exchange rate so can vary with time.
UK Price between :
£350 = $691 US Dollars
£250 = $493 US Dollars
As you can see it appears the difference is not small and can only mean crappy deals for UK consumers.
In the last month Adobe have allowed pre-orders of the 3 version of their CS suite, only this time the pricing seems a little off. They have taken the same approach as Microsoft by offering multiple versions of the product.
So the Creative Suite 3 Design Premium costs $1799.00 US Dollars.
On the same website the UK store offers the product at a lovely rounded £1655.58 (this equals $3270 US Dollars), that will hopefull earn Adobe over 80% more profit on UK sales alone.
