Gaming wishlist for 2015

Posted in Gaming

Another year and my Steam Library grows even fuller not helped in the slightest by the sales, of course there are many new games going out this year that I’m also looking forward to. There are some new titles and many re-vamp or successor

  • Big Pharma by Twice Circled – The idea behind the game is very simple but the devil is in the detail, balancing the pros against the cons as you manufacture medicine.
  • Battlefield Hardline – I’m hoping that this game may bring the BF franchise back into a half decent game.
  • Evolve – The 1 v 4 game from those who gave us Left 4 Dead, if balanced correctly this game is going to rock. (Turtle Rock)
  • The Witness – I’ve been following this game for what feels like years now, I’m hoping it we will get some solid dates for release soon.
  • Pillars of Eternity / Torment: Tides of Numenera – The retro feel of Balders gate and Planescape in modern engines, they may not be for everyone
  • Obduction – I adored the Myst games and this kickstarted title by Cyan Inc looks wonderful and  I really can’t wait to play it.
  • Satellite Reign – Another Kickstarted game that aims to reach out to all those old Syndicate fans.
  • Cosmonautica – A nice looking games that looks to be angling for the space trading market with a touch of FTL in the mix.
  • Rollercoaster Tycoon World – A new “Proper” RC tycoon game after ten years, this game is hopefully going to re-kindle my feeling about the series, plus with 4 person co-op mode I hope to drag some others into playing it.
  • Chaos Reborn – Mr Gollops follow up to the original game, thirty years after it’s release. The wizard battles will be awesome this year.
  • Quadrilateral Cowboy – Blendo games current project that has a fun puzzle and 1980’s hacker approach. Mixed with a cyberpunk and virtual heist, this game has been on my wishlist for a long time now I’m rather excited it’s arriving this year.
  • Resident Evil HD Remaster – out in just over a week, this will be great but never truely replace the wonderful acting from the original game.

Reaping Kickstarter rewards

Posted in About Me

In 2014 crowd funding continued with some epically failing to reach the starting line, while others silently gained momentum smashing their targets. It was also the year that early access seemed to be everywhere, maybe a little too much in some case as the public want to make sure they are buying into the thing they have confidence in.

So in 2014 I backed a number of Kickstarters of those the following have been  Fate tokens by Campaign coins, Vye: The Card Game by Sand Hat Games and Elegy for a Dead World: A Game About Writing Fiction by Debojaan Games.

1) In December my Fate Coins arrived and I have to admit were rather awesome. The cost was more than I was originally going to back but I upped my amount and really like mixture of coins I received.

I’m planning to put them to good use this year by running some Fate role playing games.

Elegy-2014-12-08-20-50-39-05-300x1872) I had a copy of Elegy for a Dead World delivered via Humble Bundle, and redeemable on Steam. I have a weak spot for Debojaan games but then I’m rarely disappointed. The game sees you visiting alien worlds and help you create a narrative about the people who inhabited these distant worlds.

Featuring writing prompts that aim to inspire you to detail a story the final days of a worlds population. You can share your stories with others and there is even a pay on print option with screenshots from the game.

vye queen3) Finally is Vye which was being run by some of the ex-City of Heroes staff. The game is very simple area of control game and quite fast paced, I’m rather keen to play it at home and at my work game evening.

Additionally the artwork on the cards is awesome and I have the print and play version available to test before the final version arrives sometime in June.

Tapping to Win

For the past few months I’ve been playing the Simpsons Tapped out game on my Nexus 7, mostly on the insistence of my darling wife FlyinPinkMunki.

Of course the first statement is “Yes it’s a cash shop game” however considering how long I have been playing it I’ve only spent £3 on it, which probably makes me a cheapskate in the Eyes of EA and other freemium game companies.
And yes to benefit from the Friends element of the game you will either link it to Facebook to collect your friends but the account is managed via an Origin account, which is a big turn off for many.

The day to day mechanics aren’t too taxing and nearly all characters can be sent on task that will take anywhere between 5 minutes to 24 hours. This grants you a little flexibility when it comes to how often to check the game. The usual cycles are 4, 6, 8 or 12 hours on many of the activities so a 8 hour task before bed ( as a purely unwinding task of course) usually means I get to set characters off on more jobs before work.

There are the standard season events which can often cut into your times to complete your usual tasks as you divert people to festive activities.

If you are an existing player or fancy giving it a try please drop me an invite at welshtroll and I’ll gladly accept your neighbourly visits.

Happy New Year bloggers!

Well despite my best efforts I couldn’t get my blogging mojo back into gear in the tail end of 2014, which I know if a recurring problem for me.

Admittedly I have swapped back to my old team at work and rejoined the Out of Hours support Rota, which has left me with more work that ever before.

Where am I gaming wise?

Well I did return to Planetside 2 as everyone was playing it and nagged me to join in, of course as soon as I did a large number of them went off to play WoW.

I’ve still been playing Shards of War when possible and I’m currently around level 20.

I have picked up a number of games in the Steam sale that will be playing through:

  • DefenseGrid 2
  • Invisible, Inc
  • The Marvellous Miss Take
  • Don’t Starve Together

Plus I got Shadows of Mordor for Christmas which I Haven’t started yet.
I also got some board games and some expansions which I’m looking forward to playing in the new year.
