Audio Adventures
Flashback episode. It was like audiobooks only they weren't called that back then.
During my younger years, I would spend hours listening to stories on cassette. There was a series of magazines called StoryTeller that would have stories split into multiple chapters over a few issues. Even if it was a story I knew or I'd listened to it before, I still remained engrossed for the whole story, often falling asleep while listening to them.
Considering that they were only really published for a small amount of time in the 80's I never got bored with them, and was glad my Grandmother thought to buy them at release.
Having a parent in the Air Force ment there were often times when my Dad was away on manoeuvres, during which time my mother and I would seek distractions.
We would often play different board games or titles on the ZX Spectrum. But most often, we would start or restart a Choose your Own Adventure book. I always enjoyed keeping track of stats and attempting to remember what to do differently in this play-through.
A while back Munki saw an advert, (may have been an article), that was demonstrating a simple multiple choice audio adventure. Now I rarely sign up for things I randomly see on the internet any more, but I loved the idea of it and thought it would be nice to see where it went.
As of today, their Kickstarter is now live.
Younger me would have loved this interactive fiction, combining those two elements of my childhood that I have very fond memories of, into a single entity. I adore the scaled back tech, so that it's not dependent on bluetooth or wifie, plus it's great to see headphone jacks being added to hardware, rather than removed.
I wish them all the best with Kickstarter from modern Troll and 80's Troll.
