On the first day of Blaugust
Kicking off my blog redesign by joining the 2024 Blaugust festival of blogging
So I have been working on a redesign/re-platform of my blog (more on that soon), so what better time than August to throw myself in at the deep end. I will point out that parts of the site are a little wonky at the moment, some topic and tag links may end in a 404, so please bear with me and we'll soon get things shipshape as I develop the code for each missing feature.
Hi, Hello 👋
Hello fellow bloggers and blaugustians, I will start with a customary introduction post to get things rolling on this exciting August adventure.
I am Welshtroll, a name I have used online since the mid 90's, I work as a Software Engineer/Developer/Programmmer and I live in South Wales with my partner and our two children. I adore electronic, board and role-playing games, especially smaller indie titles, I am frequently the GM in RPGs.
I exist in other places on the internet and you can look them up on my find page.
My blogging habits have varied over the years from silly jokes and reviews to gaming journals, behind the scenes moving from hosting images on Tripod with a free domain to getting a real site and domain. I played around with building interactive sites on WAP when the internet was just moving into the realms of the mobile phone, and I was an early adopter of twitter with it running on my old Nokia N95 (even if it did run like trash).
The blogosphere (is it even still called that anymore🤷♂️) has been my home for a good number of years evolving as technology has changed. Long gone are the times when web-rings were the best (and often only) way to discover new sites, advertising was something limited to TV and Print and content creation wasn't an exercise in monetisation. There have been some memorable times like the rise of podcasts, covering every topic you could think of, and Vloging grew and kept growing.
I have taken part in Blaugust more times than I care to admit. For me, one of the best things about the event is seeing new folks diving into writing and the flurry of new posts I get in my RSS reader on a daily basis. I look forward to reading everyone's posts over the next month and helpfully beyond.
If you haven't a clue what I'm going on about or want to sign-up, head over to Belghast's introduction post here.
