I don’t think I have really posted about Diablo 3 on my blog aide from when I got started and some seasonal updates, I spotted a post by Jen over at https://bookofjen.net and I thought I should rectify this fact.
I didn’t play D3 at launch despite being a fan of the franchise and I really enjoy ARPG’s as they are always a good method for story telling. Growing up on a diet of isometric RPG titles I think ARPG’s always feel like a natural progression of that genre.
So I picked up Diablo 3 a few of years after the launch and the auction house kerfuffle, when I was on the hunt for a new title to play. I had hear good stuff from friends and the folks on the Gamers with Jobs podcast.
I am a sucker for in-depth lore and of course Diablo lore reaches back to 1997 and is very rich and detailed.
I was fortunate to get the Book of Adria: A Diablo Bestiary as a gift last year and the books contain so many notes and details at aren’t necessarily obvious through the medium of the game.
It’s a Social thing
I have come to really enjoy the social element of the seasonal events, for a 2 month period there is a swarm of activity, we get to help each other out and team up to push Greater Rifts.
It may not be the same a say a raid in a larger scale MMO title, but then it feels more ad-hoc and relaxed which again makes it fun rather than a chore.
I adore the Crusader class, I endeavour to play it every season where possible, mostly as I love the flexibility that the class brings, it grants me solo play and group play without too much alteration of my build, usually just those elements that offer team support that I usually don’t run if solo.
My second most played is Necromancer, I love this last addition to the D3 class list, it plays so different and has very different options like the health sacrifice elements that makes using it challenging and different.
Do you play Diablo 3? What is your most enjoyable class?
Well May is starting quite strong on the gaming front, I’ve kicked off a Diablo III character restart for the sixth season. I like the seasons in that they give me a reason to fire the game up once more, last time I had to roll a new sessional character but this one I got to restart an existing one.
I’m not a massively focused player nor do I tend to play the game with a group but I’m keen to see how the next run progresses, and attempt to complete more tasks this time around.
This week FlyinPinkMunki and I patched Elder Scrolls Online, we stumped up and bought a plus membership and then rolled two new characters. We had been discussing this for sometime and what with the Dark Brotherhood content incoming we couldn’t think of a better time to be returning. I’ve finally got around to creating an Imperial character and will let you know how we get on.
Last but not least is Overwatch which officially goes live later this month but is in open beta between the 5 and 9 with those who have preordered getting a 2 day head start. I have tried to vary the characters I play but have found that Pharah, Zarya and of course Mei are the ones I’ve favouring at the moment. I can’t wait for this game to go live as there are so many people that I follow who are playing it, if you want to add me I can be found on BT welshtroll#2579.
Finally we are still kicking around in The Division as a select few of us head towards level 20 (Yes we can blast through content but it is nice to have a regular gaming evening with some old timer clan mates). The game doesn’t do a great deal to hide the mechanics so a weekly group actually works better for me as continually play would just frustrate me.
Yesterday evening I completed the main 5 Acts of Diablo 3 and Reaper of Souls, I have to say I really enjoyed the story even if there was no clear plot device for me showing up and smashing everyone’s pots and vases to shit.
My barbarian is now level 55 and primed to hit adventure mode, when I feel ready to go back to it. It’s odd that in some game I will favour ranged but others melee is more my style, I’m looking forward to trying the demon hunter out in the future too.
This week update 2.4 had gone live which also triggers the start of Season 5 ,which I see a number of people (especially on twitter) including Belghast is taking part in it. I may roll a character but not really convinced that I’ll put too much time into it.
Only a quick post today as I have a head cold and feel awful.
