Jasyla over at Cannot Be Tamed posted a rather nice Gaming Questionnaire that after it was mentioned on twitter I thought could be a nice break in my posting schedule.
A couple of regular blogs I follow have also run with it here, here and here
- When did you start playing video games?
- I remember it well the year was 1985, or was it 1986.
Well I kind of remember it, not very well. My Dad went out and brought home a ZX Spectrum+, it was rather late when he arrived home so we didn’t get chance to set it up and play that evening. The following day I remember waking at 6am and going downstairs only to find my Mum was already there setting it up and was as excited as me.

- What is the first game you remember playing?
- The first proper game I remember was Knight Lore (Crash), it was a challenging isometric platformer in which you play as a man cursed to become a Werewolf and you had 40 days and nights to find the potion to break the curse.

- PC or Console?
- Mostly PC about a 99% – 1% split
- XBox, PlayStation, or Wii?
- XBox
- What’s the best game you’ve ever played?
- For me it would have to be Gone Home – for me this game challenged the concept of what a game can achieve and did it without multi-million dollar funding or big publishers. I try to get everyone to play it, without telling them anything 🙂 .
- What’s the worst game you’ve ever played?
- Not sure I can pick a game, mostly games are either for me or for other persons, none of them are bad, just not to my taste.
- Name a game that was popular/critically adored that you just didn’t like.
- World of Warcraft, I wanted to like it but it really didn’t get on with the game.
- Fallout 3
- Borderlands
- Name a game that was poorly received that you really like.
- Freedom Fighters – I adored this game, ok the acting was a little sub-par at times, but he AI was brilliant, the enemy waves were varied and often needed a little thinking to overcome.
- What are your favourite game genres?
- Aside from MMOs I really do I quite enjoy platformers. But generally I will play anything that grabs my attention.
- Who is your favourite game protagonist?
- April Ryan – You have to love the humour in The Longest Journey, for a point and click adventure it stands out as such an wonderfully detailed character.
- Describe your perfect video game.
- For me the perfect game has to have a nice open system with lots of options that allow me to build what I want, rather than just being confined to a subset of skills.
- What video game character do have you have a crush on?
- Red from Transistor
- What game has the best music?
- The music is Bastion is certainly one of my favourites as it linked closely to the story as you play.
- Most memorable moment in a game:
- Reaching max level on my Corruptor in City of Villains and getting over 600 badges (achievements).
- Scariest moment in a game:
- (1996) I jumped at the dogs jumping through the windows in the corridor at the start of Resident Evil, we were playing it at 11pm with the lights off.
- Most heart-wrenching moment in a game:
- The closure of City of Heroes/Villains, the last few minutes were both wonderful and awful to witness.
- What are your favourite websites/blogs about games?
- A tricky one, for news I enjoy Rock, Paper Shotgun, none of that tacky Console news there. For all other blogs my blogroll is pretty up-to-date.
- What’s the last game you finished?
- I finished Gunpoint and but finished I mean I got all the achievements.
- What future releases are you most excited about?
- Evolve, co-op, what’s not to enjoy.
- Spy Party, I’m in the beta but looking forward to the completed game with the new graphics
- The Witness, I’ve been following this game for some time
- Do you identify as a gamer?
- Yes and proud of it
- Why do you play video games?
- For the same reason other people go out or to the cinema. I Play for enjoyment, entertainment and social interaction.
I almost put Fallout 3 as the game I didn’t like that was critically acclaimed. It could easily stand there next to Red Dead Redemption, the game I did pick. Idk what it was but neither game sat right with me, and though I paid $60 for FO3, I ended up trading it in within a day or two. I only borrowed RDR thankfully.
I love the answer of Gone Home for best game. It was so different and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Resident Evil also (2 in my case I was late!) had my scariest gaming moment, just difficult to pick up which one….so many! Playing late in the dark…so creepy!
